How Long Is Recovery After a Mommy Makeover?

Woman pinching abdominal skin with surgical markings on her stomach before mommy makeover procedure A mommy makeover usually involves a combination of procedures to improve areas affected by pregnancy or weight changes. Most commonly, it includes a tummy tuck, breast lift or augmentation, and liposuction.

Mommy makeovers are customized, but the one thing every patient asks about is recovery. How long will it take? What’s normal? What can affect your timeline?

Our team at West Houston Plastic Surgery will help you prepare for downtime with a timeline based on your specific procedures and lifestyle. Houston-area women turn to Dr. Alfonso Barrera and Dr. Eric Ruff for their knowledge of aesthetic body surgery and practical guidance during recovery.

Week-by-Week Recovery Timeline

The combination is customized for each patient, so recovery can vary depending on the procedures performed. Here’s a general idea of what you can expect after a mommy makeover:

  • Week 1: This is your time to get plenty of rest. If your procedure includes a tummy tuck, you’ll likely need help around the house. Swelling, tightness, and soreness are common, and your surgeon will guide you on how to manage discomfort with medication and limited movement.
  • Week 2: You may feel a bit more mobile now. Light walking is usually encouraged to help with circulation, but you should still avoid lifting, bending, or driving unless your surgeon says otherwise.
  • Weeks 3–4: Many people return to desk work or other non-strenuous jobs around this time. Your energy might not be back to 100%, so it’s important to ease back into your normal routine.
  • Week 6: You might be allowed to do some light exercise, depending on how you’re healing. Most people feel significantly more comfortable, but still need to avoid intense activity.
  • Weeks 8 and beyond: With your surgeon’s approval, you may be cleared for more strenuous workouts, core training, or heavier lifting.

Your Timeline Starts With a Consultation
