
Dr. Eric Ruff was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended Spring Woods High School, where he developed an early interest in plastic surgery. He began his training at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. He received his medical degree from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He then completed a highly competitive integrated Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
Throughout his six-year residency, Dr. Ruff trained at multiple esteemed hospitals throughout Texas, including UTMB Galveston/League City, Shriners Hospital for Children, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, Driscoll Children’s Hospital, and numerous community aesthetic practices. During his training, Dr. Ruff developed a special interest in aesthetic surgery, specifically body contouring, and learned from leading aesthetic plastic surgeons in the greater Houston community.
Dr. Ruff’s commitment to excellence has garnered him numerous accolades, including being elected Outstanding Resident in Plastic Surgery. He was awarded scholarships from both the American College of Surgeons and the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation and has presented at multiple regional and national symposiums. He won Best Scientific Poster at the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting in 2015, and the Editor’s Choice Award from the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2016 for his publication on Safety in Body Contouring Procedures. He has written extensively in national scientific journals and has authored multiple chapters in plastic surgery textbooks on a variety of topics, including hair transplantation, pediatric burn care, lower extremity reconstruction, pressure sore reconstruction, and surgical materials.
Dr. Ruff believes that giving back should be at the core of any plastic surgeon’s mission. He has embodied this belief by participating in surgical missions to Mexico, where he performed burn reconstruction for pediatric patients with burn injuries. He served as chair of the UTMB Plastic Surgery Research Committee, where he mentored medical students and residents interested in research. He was appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch and will continue his dedication to the profession by educating and training future plastic surgeons.
