Eyelid Surgery Scars: Where They’re Hidden and How They Heal

Plastic surgeon marking woman's face to prepare for blepharoplasty. Anytime you’re considering surgery on your face, it’s natural to want reassurance about where scars might show and how they’ll heal. The same is true for eyelid surgery, and with the right approach, these scars are typically minimal and well-concealed.

At West Houston Plastic SurgeryDr. Alfonso Barrera and Dr. Eric Ruff have decades of combined experience helping patients refresh their eyes. Both are board-certified plastic surgeons in Houston, Texas, with extensive training in facial procedures, and they take great care in how and where incisions are made.

Where Scars Are Placed During Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, involves very small incisions that are placed in natural folds or hidden areas of the eyelids.

For the upper lids, the incision usually falls in the crease of the eyelid, which means it’s barely noticeable once healed. In the lower lids, the approach depends on your anatomy. The incision might be just beneath the lash line or completely inside the lower lid (a technique called transconjunctival blepharoplasty).

Both approaches reduce visible scarring and allow the area to heal in a way that blends with the natural shape of your face.

How Eyelid Scars Heal Over Time

Right after surgery, it’s normal to see some redness and mild swelling around the incision lines. These early changes typically begin to improve within the first two weeks. Over the next few months, scars soften and fade as your body continues to heal. Most patients find that by three to six months, the scars are faint and easy to forget about.

Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions can help the healing process go smoothly. Avoiding sun exposure and using recommended scar creams or moisturizers can also make a difference in how the skin heals.

Experience Matters

Surgical skill plays a major role in how well your eyelid scars heal, and both Dr. Alfonso Barrera and Dr. Eric Ruff bring an exceptional level of refinement to each case.

Dr. Barrera is nationally recognized for his work in facial surgery and has taught and written extensively on surgical technique. Dr. Ruff trained at top institutions across Texas and was honored for his research on safety in cosmetic procedures. And their care doesn’t stop in the OR—they guide you through the full recovery process with hands-on support. You’re in good hands with our team.
