At West Houston Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alfonso Barrera has spent over two decades refining advanced hair transplant techniques. He works alongside Dr. Eric Ruff, who is also a board-certified plastic surgeon with specialized training in aesthetic surgery.Â
Their goal is to help you bring your hairline forward with natural-looking results. Here’s how it works at our practice in Houston, Texas.
How a Hair Transplant Can Rebuild the Hairline
A hair transplant works by moving healthy hair follicles from areas where your hair is still thick (usually the back or sides of your head) and placing them where your hairline has receded. Because the transplanted hairs are your own, they grow naturally and continue to grow over time.
Dr. Alfonso Barrera is known internationally for his work in treating male and female pattern baldness, but also more complex cases involving scars or injuries.Â
What sets his approach apart is attention to your hairline’s shape, direction, and density. No two hairlines are the same, so your transplant is planned to fit your face and features.Â
What to Expect During and After the Procedure
Dr. Barrera performs all procedures under IV sedation and local anesthesia, which helps avoid the risks of general anesthesia and allows you to go home the same day. He typically uses small follicular units of one to four hairs per graft to give you a seamless look.
The transplanted hair starts to grow right away, but you will experience some initial shedding in the first few weeks. This is temporary. New growth usually begins around the three-month mark, with noticeable improvements by six months. Your hairline typically reaches its full appearance within 12 months.
Is A Hair Transplant Right for You?
A successful hair transplant depends on having enough healthy donor hair. Dr. Barrera can assess this in person at our Houston practice or through photos if you’re not local.
