Surgery of the Nose (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems.

Dr. Barrera is double boarded, being a Diplomate of both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. This means that he is able to take care of your nose both inside and out.

Keep in mind that rhinoplasty isn't solely a cosmetic surgery. When there is difficulty breathing through the nose the nasal septum may be deviated, or the turbinates may be hypertrophic. If this is the case, medical insurance may take care of part of the cost. Likewise, if there has been a fracture, insurance will often cover the cost of correction.

Most procedures are done at Dr. Barrera's clinic. He uses sedation and local anesthesia, and patients are allowed to return home the same day.

While rhinoplasty can enhance your appearance, it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. The best candidates for rhinoplasty are those who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. Dr. Barrera and his staff will be glad to consult with you before you make a decision to have surgery.
