Megasession Frequently Asked Questions

Since hair loss is a problem, what certainty is there that the "donor hair" will reside in the new site?
Hair located at the back of the head has a longer life span due to genetics and hormone stimulation. Hence, this is used as the donor site. Rather than multiple punches, an ellipse of skin is removed from the back of the head and stitched, leaving a well concealed scar. Since this hair has "memory", it tends to remain in the new location (the bald area), making a more permanent transfer.

What type of anesthesia is used?
A mild sedation with local anesthesia is usually administered. The patient should be driven to and from the office.

How will you look after surgery?
For 48 hours, a turban like bandage is worn around the head to allow for moderate compression. Once removed, a shower and shampoo are permitted. During the next 15 days there is a crust formation which will dry and fall out.

How long before the hair starts to grow?
The transplanted hair will fall out after one month, then start growing back 2-3 months later.

When will the hair begin to look natural?
It usually takes 8-12 months for the hair growth to look natural.

What is the success rate of the micro-grafts?
The survival and good healing rate of the micrografts and minigrafts is usually 90%. One year after the first surgery the patient can undergo a second procedure if desired.

Who is a candidate?
Most anyone! Various degrees of baldness from a receding hairline and hair loss at the crown to a more extensive loss are improved by the Uebel technique.

Why hair transplants?
There is an unfortunate connotation that baldness relates to aging. For healthy, energetic persons baldness projects an erroneous image of aging. If self-esteem or work related competition is an issue, this surgery may be a solution.
