Laser Surgery Introduction

Laser technology has advanced tremendously in recent years. Today, there are three types of lasers used frequently in Plastic Surgery procedures.

1. The CO2 laser is used for facial skin resurfacing. This includes treatment of wrinkle lines, some blemishes that occur with aging, and scars, such as those caused by acne.

2. The Ruby laser is used for the removal of tattoos and pigmented lesions (freckles and dark spots, such as those on the back of the hands or on the face).

3. The Pulsed Dye Laser (PhotoGenica) can remove hemangiomas (vascular abnormalities roughly comparable in appearance to port-wine birthmarks) as well as telangiectasias (small vessels on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin). It may also help to get rid of the pinkness of certain scars.
